Wildcard characters (asterisks: *) can be added to any query term.
The position of the wildcard specifies where zero or more other characters may appear.

A contains query operator searches for items that contain words (including plural, gerund and past tense forms)—not merely substrings—that match your query terms. Boolean operators may be used with these queries.
An equals query operator searches for items that exactly match your query terms. When wildcards are specified, it looks for substrings—not words—that match your terms.

Whenever you use the contains query type, you may separate words or phrases using the Boolean operators AND, OR and NOT. (e.g., “estrogen receptor AND endometrial”). Otherwise, only one query term may be entered (e.g., “estrogen receptor”).
Use AND to search for items that contain at least one occurrence of each of the query terms.
Use OR to search for items that contain at least one occurrence of any of the query terms.
Use NOT to search for items that contain one query term and not another.
If multiple words are separated only by blank spaces (no Boolean operators), that that string of words is considered a phrase and CTD will attempt to match that entire phrase in a contains query. For example, to find all items that contain the phrase “aryl hydrocarbon receptor”, use the query term “aryl hydrocarbon receptor”.
Operators are processed left-to-right. To alter that order, enclose individual elements in parentheses.
